A DRIVER’S REASSURANCE

A DRIVER’S REASSURANCE

That white on the road is salt,

Good for lifting a driver’s gestalt…

Roads well-treated

Gratefully greeted,

Even if the insurance is “no fault”.

–Jonathan Caswell

“no fault” vehicle insurance is available in some states–apparently not Massachusetts.  These insurance policies attach no further penalties to the one deemed most responsible for the accident, than state and local traffic laws.

GEORGIA IS (MORE) READY

GEORGIA IS (MORE) READY!

(“The Yellow Rose of Texas” tune)

The piney woods of Georgia

Will be snowbound again,

A storm may hit tomorrow

Making the other seem so thin…

This storm is going to clobber

The state with lots of snow,

A State of Emergency

Declared prepares for that show.

One hopes they’ve gotten more sand trucks

And train-loads full of salt,

So they’ll do better with the roads

Under winter’s assault…

A better-timed departure

Of those commuter hordes,

And managing the wait til spring

May leave some kinder words!

It’s a second slam for Georgia,

New England is next—

The prediction is a blizzard

With snow up to our necks…

With wintry wind at gale force strength

Making drifts really high,

And a warm-up probably next up

Featuring a sunny sky!

–Jonathan Caswell

A NEW ROAD SALT MARKET

A NEW ROAD SALT MARKET

I’ll bet some salesperson targets

Those brand-new Georgia markets…

Two inches of snow

And NOBODY goes,

Taking weeks to clean up the carcass.

–Jonathan Caswell

ROAD SALT LEFTOVERS!

ROAD SALT LEFTOVERS!

Greyish-white cruddies

Over rocker panels…

Evidence of road treatments

Gone through proper channels.

Evaporation

Of salty brine…

Culminates in car washing

During wintertime.

Crusty crud’s eating

Through a car’s main frame…

Obsolescence meeting

With a scrapyard crane!

Go into the tropics

To see the ancients run…

Without road salt griminess,

Restoration’s fun.

–Jonathan Caswell

(The above is one example of a quatrain…poetry written in four-line stanzas.)
