ROMANS 8:28 IN THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES
Been reading early chapters of Acts
And how God’s Spirit impacts…
The way we refuse
His commands to use,
Thus wearing armor with cracks.
–
Christ said, “to the ends of the earth”
But found a marked dearth…
Of volunteers
Leaving Jewish frontiers,
Believing what Christ was worth.
–
In point of fact, former Greeks,
Were the first to make Gospel leaps….
To Samaria prime
And give an Ethiopian time
To find the God each one “seeks.”*
–
It really took a Saul
To get them to move at all…
Persecution indeed
Pointed out need
To take it beyond that city wall!
–
The Romans finished the job
By seventy A.D., with a mob…
Which trashed the place
And the Hebrews disgraced,
Pillaging and leaving just sobs.
–
Saul turned to Paul baptized,
Who Jerusalem gladly subsidized…
With the writing on the wall,
Church must grow or fall
Is something still to be realized.
–
Have we really learned anything new?
Mainline churches are dying too…
Spiritually if not in numbers
Humanism encumbers,
While others are reaching out with real Good News!
–Jonathan Caswell
*I know, I know…I’m mixing past and present tenses here! Hence the word “seeks” in quotes. Shame on me!!!!
