A DISH OF POPCORN
Encouragement in many forms
Brightens the outlook and warms…
The cockles of hearts
By fine mystic arts,
Even through shared, popped corns!

THE PIZZA GUY!!!
It has happened once before,
Pizza delivery in the door…
He and I talk
Waiting for a customer’s walk
To my desk their supper to pay for.
–
I couldn’t show him my “tome”,
I managed to leave that home…
But gave him a copy
Of sentiment soppy,
That he could read later on.
–
Delivery guys who read
Are customers of mine guaranteed…
Mind stimulation
While plying vocation
Makes a better person indeed!

WHO WOULDN’T GO?
We have a Christmas request
From her brother at his behest…
To come up and share
Some fresh mountain air,
To be his family guests.
–
The last time, a year ago,
He was hurting so…
His wife had just died
But his sister replied,
That she wanted a Christmas tree so!
–
Brother Joe went out in the chill,
Finding answer for Diana’s will…
When the snow had dripped
He tied and chipped,
It into a warm fuzzy thrill.
–
So each year Joe asks us back
To his home in th’Adirondacks…
We’ll go and stay
And brighten his way,
For a week or so, making snow tracks.

PASSING OUT!
Maybe you’re the kind of one
Who likes to pass things out…
Helping Momma or yourself,
With a giggle or shout.
–
I will pass my poetry
To those who appreciate…
This form of creativity,
Their reaction “pays the freight”.**
–
My boss stopped me at work
From handing out my nuggets of joy…
I guess possibly offending someone
Would affect his and my employ.
–
There’s a third-shift cashier–actually two—
For which I keep a smile…
They have no computer access
So I share with them a while.
–
One or two folks near home or at work
Get a copy, if it’s something good…
One or two folks I work with,
My poetry, have understood.
–Jonathan Caswell
NOTE**: To “pay the freight” is another way of saying you get enough back by doing it to make it worth your while…worth your effort.
