MARSHMALLOW ISLANDS

MARSHMALLOW ISLANDS

Floating islands in a mill-pond,

Peacefulness there upon….

With folded necks

One suspects,

Snoring from them is profound.

Asleep in the heat of the day,

Siesta for swans is okay…

Water eventually

Wakes them gently,

When the fish want to play!

COVENANT COMMITTED

COVENANT COMMITTED

The wife sleeps by the TV and snores
While he must shut the bedroom door…
When he cannot sleep
He gets up to keep
The time to write a little more.

He rarely gets up early
Unless they have to be…
Somewhere with a “doc.”
Or for the work clock,
For him cov’ring Security.

As soon as he finishes writing
He pauses to check on his wife…
Is she breathing?
Something she’s needing?
Committed to each other for life.

WAITING FOR THE WATER TRUCK

WAITING FOR THE WATER TRUCK

In Republica Dominica, in 1984,

I missed the bottled water truck because I chose to snore…

I was not told

I must be bold,

To flag it down as it drove by our door!

Now, in 2012, similarly,

I wait for the morning Cable guy to see…

Couldn’t sleep a wink

When I began to think,

Of missing the chance to reconnect the phone and TV!
