NOBODY WANTED OUR POT–LUCK!

We took what I thought worth taking,

A soup of my own making…

Boiled cabbage and ham

But no thank you Ma’am,

Just me and the wife were taking.

Competition was rather strong,

Lasagna and casserole gone…

What little we ate

I’d consolidate

And use for suppers till gone!

I had someone’s lemon meringue,

Almost too sweet–no tang–

Along with ice cream

(And lasagna again!),

Enough food for the whole gang!

My wife left her pink NORTH  CREEK hat,

I’m rescuing stuff like that…

Everyone knows

Keeping track of clothes

Is anything but old hat!

A SURPLUS OF GOODIES

A SURPLUS OF GOODIES

A surplus of goodies today,

All on the desk in play…

Burritos and soup,

Carrots to boot,

And all made to be “put away”!!!!

A CHORUS LINE

A CHORUS LINE

(Post-St. Patrick’s Day)

CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE,

Made into a pot of soup…

CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE,

Spuds and carrots, too…

CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE,

Take some BEANO* with a bowlful…

Corned beef and cabbage, waiting for you!

–Jonathan Caswell

*BEANO is a product made of enzymes to help reduce dietary gas.

GENESIS STORIES: JACOB

GENESIS STORIES: JACOB

Jacob was a tricky one,
A Mamma’s boy making it good…
If anybody could humble someone like him
The Lord God Almighty would.

Jacob became not like Esau,
An uber-man of the field…
Who sold his birthright for a pot of soup
A sibling rivalry to yield.

If manhood’s defined by children produced
Then Jacob was a real giver…
By two wives and his concubines,
His manhood produced a full quiver!

The same became true of Jacob’s twelve sons,
A “motorcycle gang” and more…
They murdered all the men in Shechem to
Their sister’s honor to restore.

A famine threatened this “gang” family,
The solution by God was bold…
Salvation of Abraham’s bloodline
Was brought by a brother once sold…!
