LAYOFFS AT WORK

Two sudden layoffs at work
That company has a quirk…
Hiring more
With some out the door,
Survival is a perk!

OUR GEESE GETTING VISITORS?
An Atlantic Goose Management
Representative will be sent…
To visit “our” geese,
Will he come in peace–
Will the outcome we resent?
–
Maybe the one with broken wing
Will be kept for zoo visiting…
She’s so far survived
Several years, stayed alive,
Despite snow and everything!
–
Or maybe he’ll take a goose census,
Combining with numbers “immensus”…
Migration flyways
Change often these days,
As habitat change commences.

SHE GAVE SOME TO HIM…AND HE ATE IT
(Another view of Genesis 3:6)
He wants to please the Missus,
Ensuring her supply of kisses…
Getting what she asks
His required task,
And often pleasurable this is.
–
She eats often in view,
He figures…I should too…
Not to take a taste
Seems such a waste,
Even if they are not supposed to!
–
I know how Adam must have felt,
My wife and I are not svelte…
I buy what she wants
And our naughtiness flaunts
What remains under our belts!
–
I know what we eat is wrong
But it pleases to tag along…
Just one little treat
Special to eat,
Will the rest of the time keep us strong.
–
It’s proven as fairly reliable
This practice helps survival…
Younger ones see
It’s all right for me,
The mates’ bond is undeniable.
–
But this trait came with a curse,
From eating something a lot worse…
Adam knew
But chose to do
What made walks with God adverse.
–
Sometimes what seems good is bad,
Making the results really sad…
To disobey
And throw all away
For the sake of “wisdom” from a cad.

ONE OF THOSE WEEKS…!
At times our faith will be tested,
With all signs of progress arrested…
Not enough cash
For medicine or “mash”,*
Praying the next hill can be crested.
–
I like “donuts” except when driving,
On them, worried for their surviving…
Over a week,
I’m up a creek
Without a paddle, with no income deriving!
–
Not having much to give at church
Being income-limited in a lurch…
Don’t know how we’ll get to
Our medical debts, too,
Seems rather an awkward perch.
–
We’re eating less all the time,
The weight loss makes it almost fine…
Have to recalculate
What hasn’t been “ate”
If blood sugars get out of line.
–
We try to do the best that we can,
Them we’re hit with another charge or head slam…
Times tougher will be,
We are still trainees
Enduring to follow God’s plan.
–
We do not blame God for our own
Sins and maturity ungrown…
As the budget goes splat
We are more aware that,
Every saint will struggle before reaching Home.

*”mash”…as in the English/British term, “bangers and mash”…refers to specifically mashed potato, and in general, food. Bangers and mash…an English/Irish delicacy…refers to sausage and mashed potato, often with an onion or other favored gravy. “Bangers” are called that apparently because the sausage casing pops open (bangs) when cooked. SUDDEN REALIZATIONS
It’s taken twenty-five years,
With lots of back-and-forth tears…
To see what is meant
By relationship bent,
And not exempt from one’s peers!
–
The Mother was rather controlling,
In fact, by constant patrolling…
Ensured that her son’s
Survival was won,
By near-constant family extolling!
–
Which led to a certain ill fame,
And curses upon his name…
For being the younger,
He had his own hunger
To establish his own claim to fame.
–
He realizes manipulation
While a part of his indignation…
Also was a key
In who’d he marry,
Not the same, mind you, but different in translation.
–
He will not name any names
For he loves wife and mother the same…
Each in their own ways
They’ve patterned his days,
Prewired for this?–what a shame.
