Steam pressure getting low,
The fire–barely aglow–…
The engineer, calmer,
Knew this hand bomber,
Needed someone to shovel coal!

He didn’t have an automatic stoker,
His steam engine was a good smoker…
The crew would be calmer
If this old hand bomber,
Had a fireman good with a poker!

Shoveling coal by hand
Is hardly now in demand…
The hand bombers gone
We’ll get along,
–
Except at a few museums,
And happily pay to see one…
And by the way
They’ll run it today,
Planning to pay er diem.
