WRAPPING IT UP

WRAPPING IT UP

He couldn’t suddenly stop,

A final bill he’s copped…

That, once paid,

Ends his foray

Into his wild oat crop.

Looking he wryly smiles

At overflowing piles…

Have to cut down

What stays around,

But that will take a while!

YOU’VE HELPED…!

YOU’VE HELPED…!

And now you’ve helped me see

The good that is within me…

I needed not pictures

Or rigid strictures

To find value from thee.

To talk with literaries

And answer your queries…

Has given me hope,

Energy to cope

Without too many raspberries.*

Your kindnesses–overwhelming–

Ideas for pieces jelling…

Your great gift

Is providing lift

For happiness beyond telling!

Tempted to look to the flesh

For comfort in fantasy mesh…

You provided

A positive-sided

Way without mental undress.

 Friends keep friends going strong,

So glad I’m invited along…

Without you–MAN–

I’d be in the can

Singing an uglier song!

I praise God for all of you,

Regardless if you believe too…

Believers are great

But to participate

With all, helps me get through.

* raspberries…a rather rude way of expressing derision for a thought or person

NOT OLD ENOUGH

NOT OLD ENOUGH

She didn’t mind looking and talking,

With residents who were by-walking…

She brightened their day

Letting them talk away,

Those thoughts and mem’ries uncaulking.

But one man apparently too

Young to minister to…

Fell into a hole,

Was put on parole

‘Cause he wanted to follow through.

He caught himself in time,

To apologize for no crime…

But he is aware

Of temptation there,

Visiting less is his fine.

He’s saddened by his social loss,

But it wasn’t worth the cost…

Of crossing the line,

He will miss the time

Of hob-nobbing with hot sauce!

—Jonathan Caswell

FILTERING IS FINE

FILTERING IS FINE

Alas he is a man,

Pushing envelopes when can…

But can’t go a-kilter

If the computer filters

The stuff he would see on demand.

Temptation comes to us often,

Where resolve under stress can soften…

Ain’t it good to know

There are limits to go,

Keeping soul from a self-made coffin?
