WHEN MATTHEW COMES TO VISIT…

Here in Massachusetts

We are preparing,

To host Matthews’ remnants

And what those remnants bring…

C-J Management’s come out

With a notice drop

To stock up water food and such==

Especially soda pop!

The Common Room has been declared

A shelter just for us,

In case we lose our power

In it’s generator trust…

Elevators will be off-line

Impossible to use,

The EMTs must use the stairs

for any rescues!

We’re not demeaning folks who live

In current disaster zones,

We pray for all of those

Who lose their very homes…

But each of us must do the things

Preparing for the worst.

A special prayer for those of you

Who face disaster first!

NO WITNESSES!

Received an “anonymous complaint”,

To write in the Lobby I “cain’t”…

Uncomfortable by

A poet’s eye,

The complainer fears judgmental paint!

Poets look around naturally,

Responding to sound they can see…

At three AM

A certain man,

Wants no witness to his activity!

Writing late, I can assume,

It’s safer in the Common Room…

Cannot witness

Exiting of his guests,

Keeping safe his secret as to whom!

ERIC’S WISDOM

ERIC’S WISDOM

While I am at my lap top,

Another resident stops….

To check his email,

The computer’s availed,

In our eyes, Eric’s the top!

IT IS FOUR AM…

IT IS FOUR AM

…DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR SPOUSE IS????

My wife, taking time to think,

If not in the bed, quick as a wink…

Will know where I am–

In the Common Room, Man,

Posting poetry that is very distinct!-

COMMON ROOM BLINDS

COMMON ROOM BLINDS

Management put up new blinds,

The opaque, big-bodied kinds…

Can’t see a thing

Of folks entering,

The window between us is blind.

SUSANNE’S CAT

SUSANNE’S CAT

Writing the other evening

In our Common Room…

Where the house Wi-Fi signal

Is strong enough to use.

Heard soft talking

To someone nearby…

Almost like the answer

Was  a cat’s soft cry.

Susanne came ’round the corner,

In her hands was “Mini-Mouse”…

A mostly black and white feline

Escaping from her house.

Mini looked at me

I looked at her…

Being caught and held like that

She didn’t even purr!

She has my commiseration

,I’ve wanted to cut and run…

But perhaps like her I would prefer

Some exploration!

RENTERS INSURANCE

RENTERS’ INSURANCE

Came into the Common Room

To write, banishing gloom…

Found a brochure

For the uninsured,

“My wife wants to find us some, soon!”

A new insurance agent in town

Spread his brochure around…

Can he make offers

Kindly to coffers,

Perhaps we’ll policies “sound.”

TWO OLD MEN

TWO OLD MEN

A rainy day, in sullen gloom

The aged men sit…

No need to turn the lights on,

Enough daylight’s legit.

The one, in his favorite chair,

The other riding shotgun…

A lot of folks have passed through there

Since this ritual was begun.

Both chairs are slightly angled

Out toward the sun or rain…

Watching for the U.S. Mail

And Meals on Wheels again.

Each sits in his revelry,

Silent as a tomb…

One or both may notice

Someone entering the Common Room.

The elder is hard of hearing

And wears a hearing aid…

You wouldn’t know talking to him,

Responses are delayed!

They sit and watch for hours

From early morn to night…

Getting up for meals and bathroom breaks,

They keep the world in sight.

One takes an afternoon nap

And then others may fill in…

When either of the men return,

Newcomers give way to them.

They see almost all that’s going on,

In the courtyard and in the road…

When Homemakers or Nurses come

We strike the mother lode!

When time is nearing end-of-day

And evening transpires…

The watchful two get up and leave,

Eat and retire.

No one keeps a watchful eye

On the overnight….

No goings-on to entertain,

Just fisher cats to fight.

But shortly after daybreak,

We again see these two…

Sitting near the windows

Watching for anything new.
