GLEEFUL ANTICIPATION

GLEEFUL ANTICIPATION

(to the tune of: ON THE TOP OF OLD SMOKEY)

Out in the Berkshires*

Weather radar shows…

A rip-snorting rain storm

With thunderous throes!

It;s sweeping right for us,

Will be here by morn

With this modern radar

We keep well-informed!

‘Though a soaking rain’s better,

We’ll take what we get…

Now I hear in forty minutes

We’ll all be wet!!!!

–Jonathan Caswell

* The Berkshires….a lower part of the Appalacian Range, in Western Massachusetts.

PRELUDE TO DOWNPOUR?

PRELUDE TO DOWNPOUR?

Lightning and thunder around,

Portraying just light and sound…

So when will the rains

Pitter-pattering refrain

Come and moisten the ground?

Anticipation nears,

As animals show their fears…

Hiding under beds

Covering their heads,

Possibly shaking their ears?

To the radar most people go,

Whether it is rain or snow…

Technology

Should know, you see,

So that forecasters can crow!

PROMISES, PROMISES!

PROMISES, PROMISES!

The rain’s finally started

After threatening thunders and clouds…

So many tried to avoid it,

Getting out before the crowds.

He shut off the sprinklers early

Because it had started to rain…

No need  being in a hurry

To water the lawns again.

Those winds had blown so wildly before,

It felt like the storm would come soon…

But waited until the wind calmed down

In New England it’s hard to assume…!
