MARATHON MOMENTS

Watching the Boston Marathon

Runners break the tape…

Strategic running is key

To win a towel drap.

Wheelchair,women and the men

All in separate races…

Making easier to see

Triumphant, tired faces.

Then the rest may start to run,

Ten thousand at a time…?

Each runner to do their best

On a course far from sublime.

TV camera on I-phones

Capture close-up views…

Shown by minute at the scene

And on the evening news!

Economics have a play

In each winner’s goals…

Large amounts of the award moneys

Sent back to cure a nation’s woes.

I know a Ghanaian man

Who sends back money too…

How he does it, I don’t know

But his family’s heart is true!

MAN’S PRIDE COMPENSATED

MAN’S PRIDE COMPENSATED

(OR:  BEING FOUND OUT!)

An attractive secretary

Had reason to be carried….

In a wheelchair

From here to there,

So she would not be wearied.

The gentleman at night

Who had that transit delight…

Took great care

Not to blow on her hair,

He wanted to treat her right.

One day he went up the stair,

She caught him puffing for air…

With the long way around

He could muffle the sound

By the time he got there!

She made him stop at the door,

Not to her car as before…

He wanted to balk

But seeing her walk

To her car was worth being caught feeling poor.

A GENTLEMAN’S CHARGE

A GENTLEMAN’S CHARGE

He had a special charge today,

One of the secretaries needed a way…

To get downstairs

In a company wheelchair,

Via the freight elevator, by the way!

His gentlemanly conversation brief,

To get her downstairs was his chief…

Duty he chose

Without much verbose

Commentary, just comic relief.

He tried not to look at her hair,

Or breathe in the fragrances there…

He breathed out the side

Of his mouth ’til they arrived

At the curbside, her ride was right there.
