HAPPY HOLY DAYS!

HAPPY HOLY DAYS!

Nonbelievers say “holidays”,

Avoiding giving God praise…

But the word itself

From a Christian word shelf,

Holi-days  are meant holy days!

As for those lights on the tree,

Martin Luther was firstly…

To put on tree lights

Reminders of Christ,

The Light of the world, Biblilically!

Winter Solstice is not the same

As Christmas–not even in name…

Christmas is fixed,

The two weren’t mixed,

Til later when the Church was tamed!

Solstice, a festival for light,

On the longest cold  winter’s night…

Telling the sun

Folks want dark undone,

With fear he might not out of spite.

CHRISTMAS FAERIES

CHRISTMAS FAERIES

Although well-intentioned,

Faeries are seldom mentioned…

In Christmas lore,

Were they, before,

Christians started intervention?

A winter solstice concluded,

Were they consulted by the Druids?

To fertilize frozen

Land and folks chosen

To produce bumper crops when denuded?

The chance to be erotic is there

Inside, away from cold air…

But most today

Will get away

With a colored drawing fair.

It must have been a fright

To lose more and more sunlight…

With excited queries

Unto the faeries,

“Would this year turn out all right?”

WINTER SOLSTICE WONDER

WINTER SOLSTICE WONDER

Celebrate the Son of God,

The Sun is getting higher…

Though we’re in the thick of night

Let’s raise a blazing fire.

Evergreens, eternal life

And hope in winter bringing…

Hark–I hear signs of life—

Winter cardinals singing!

Moonlit snow is blinding

To the wide awake…

All of us must ope’ our eyes,

New life to grab and take.

Winter’s grip is fading

Despite the coming storms…

Knowing we are in God’s Love

Is knowledge that warms!
