THE VITREO-RETINAL ASSOCIATES** STAFF

The V.R.A.** clientele,

Like Diana are treated well….

Diatated to treated

We’re pleasantly greeted,

It’s customer service they sell.

Managing efficient care,

As patients move chair-to-chair…

Each conducts

Themselves with facts,

Showing if we’re getting somewhere!

The gals at the front greeting desk,

Check status of every guest…

Beautiful smiles

Trim paperwork piles,

tto a size that is best!

Nana and the women within,

Where documentation comes in…

Check history

And ability,

To see since the last visit in.

V.R.A.** dedication

To each patient’s situation….

Is very apt

In relieving handicapped,

Vision from further disintegration!

Doctor defrin’s name still appears—

He treated my wife for years–

On the name b oard

Many eyes he restored,

Has retired with a full and rich career!

THE AMERICAN CHESTNUT RETURNS!

THE AMERICAN CHESTNUT RETURNS!

Our paper, THE TELEGRAM AND GAZETTE,*

Announces we soon will  get…

Chestnut trees

Re-introducing these,

In Green Hill Park, yet!

Decimated by the Asian Bark Beetle,

It’s good being able to wheedle…

Benefits from

Efforts to come

Working that environmental creedo!

To these efforts salutes toasted,

(Do they taste like the older kind, roasted?)…

Making trees priority

Is good environmentally,

Fruit of efforts that were long boasted!

THE GLIMMER AT GOLEMO

THE GLIMMER AT GOLEMO (FOODS)

I see it on the highway

While driving home from town….

At two in the morning,

One window shining down.

A big brick building next to

A green GUINNESS* sign…

With a leaping Polish dancer

Painted “GOLEMO FOODS” so fine!

It’s in the Canal District

Of good Worcester** town…

This  building is lit up at night,

Proudly in its renown.

Westbound on I-290,

One drives right by it…

Generally for most of the year

Only one window is lit.

Then sometime in November

Of two thousand-thirteen…

A few more windows were left lit,

In the early morning scene.

Can only think that things revved up

For celebration time…

More “late night oil” properly spent,

To avoid being understocked–a crime!

GOLEMO FOODS are properly known

As being the best of the best…

In the busy season,

Quality knows no rest!

–Jonathan Caswell

* GUINNESS is the internationally famous dark beer, sold in that neighborhood at an Irish pub whose advertising sign includes a large green Irish hat for a billboard.

** “Worcester (Massachusetts, in the northeast U.S.A.)” is pronounced either “WUH-ster”  or sometimes “WISS-ster”  in this neck of the woods.  Hence, although the word “Worcester” has three apparent syllables, it is in fact pronounced with only two…keeping the poem’s rhythm intact.   (Phone operators, telemarketers and anybody else from outside this area invariably screw up the pronounciation!  :). )

A MAN FOR THE AGES…

A MAN FOR THE AGES…

So said our President,

A man who learned to control his rage

And how his life was spent.

Jordan Levy, on WTAG,*

Said it best for us all…

When revenge or payback were in his hands

He let gracious actions be his call.

Our flags are at half-staff,

This time deservedly so…

Americans haven’t always gotten it right

But this time…we know.
